American Apparel makes sweatshop free clothing IN America

AmericanApparel.net, out of downtown Los Angeles produces sweatshop free clothing. They have one factory where they do their production, marketing, and sales in house in America. They employ 4000 people and guess what, they pay them a living wage with benefits. As a result they don’t hardly have any turnover.

For example the average American Apparel worker earns $13 hour and offer year-round employment and job security. They provide affordable healthcare for workers and their families, company subsidized lunches, bus passes, free ESL classes, on-site masseurs, free parking, proper lighting and ventilation and safe up-to-date equipment.

Because of their “Made in the USA label” and their treatment of their workers and eco friendly policies they have been featured on the NBC Today show and PBS and major newspapers.

As far as the clothing material goes, they do stock organic cotton apparel for some of their clothing line, but their mission statement says that they will strive to have as much organic cotton as they can. They also have a program in which they recycle over a million pounds of fabric scraps each year. Look out for the sustainable edition label.
