Parking Lot of the Future has Solar Panel Forest to Recharge Cars

Let’s turn our ugly un eco friendly parking lots into something more pretty and functional. Check this design and inspiration by designer Neville Mars. He envisions these solar panels charging our electric cars while they are parked. The solar panel leaves actually rotate in the direction of the most sun. Also the leaves add shading for the cars beneath.

Solar energy has the potential to help this state buffer the demand for new power plants that consume natural gas — and leave Californians vulnerable to the types of wild price fluctuations that sent public utilities into bankruptcy and forced Gov. Gray Davis to grope for desperate financing schemes just to keep the lights on.
One of the many lessons of the energy crisis was that California needed to develop a more diverse and reliable supply of electricity.

Very pretty, but also pretty impractical. Why on earth would you have solar panels shaded by other solar panels?
Its an interesting way of covering a large area with photovoltaic solar panels though.

Hey its the thought that counts! I love this idea. I can’t wait for the day when we use solar energy to power our cars! It is very near.

I think it is a fabulous idea, I really like it.

The design is really nice — very green. However there seems to be a lot of shadows cast on the solar panels by other solar panels, thus making them less effective. Since solar panels are expensive things, I feel that the shelter should be flat, although the design for such shelters will not be as aesthetically pleasing.

Well the overlapping of the panels makes sense because it says right there that they rotate to capture the most sun. They wouldn’t always be overlapping as much as they are in the pictures necessarily. I like and appreciate the design and aesthetic of this.

Sweet post! It’s fascinating what you can do with smartphones, I just got one and your site is one of the first I happened to visit, just googled some stuff and clicked your link. Anyways, like I said, excellent read.
After reading your post I thought you might also be interested in something I’m just discovering. With technology advances in phones I have also become passionate about a couple other things, one of them being Solar Panels, particularly DIY Solar Panels.
Anyways, don’t want to make a big deal about DIY Solar Panels here for it’s becoming my passion and may not be yours. If curious I recommend this site for more information on DIY Solar Panels

The summer of 1976 saw the ABA-NBA merger finally take place. As part of the merger agreement, four teams from the ABA—the Nets, Nuggets, Pacers and San Antonio Spurs—joined the NBA. The Nets and Nuggets had actually applied to join the NBA in 1975, but were forced to play a lame-duck season in the ABA by court order.[9] Prior to their first NBA season, the Nets traded two draft picks to the Kansas City Kings for guard Nate Archibald.
