Interesting idea, pretty expensive though! And it looks kind of big. I love the thought behind it. Hopefully it will get smaller as technology improves.

Well, that should be a great way to save some electricity. However, I don’t think that you will be able to use it fully indoors though. But I do agree if you’re so into outdoor adventure, you will definitely have more use for it. But who would want to bring a laptop while camping anyway?

  39. apgerbu interneta veikals says:

I think the Solar Gorilla is finally available in the U.S. now as I’ve seen it on sale at a couple of web stores(Solar Gorilla). Even though these don’t come with a battery source to store a charge, it’s very heartening to see the options as far as alternative energy chargers grow. With a little bit of market traction, these solar chargers will begin to retail for next to nothing — and really, at a price of $280, (which is what it’s on sale for at Ecogeekliving.com) I’m sure they’re well worth their price over the course of the product lifetime.

Ha! I thought this was a USB powered George Foreman grill when I looked at the picture! What a great idea! Obviously the USB port will let me plug in any device with a USB charger, including my phone and Bluetooth earpiece. Is the manufacturer offering any discount vouchers? While I have been in some remote areas and needed to charge my laptop, the price does seem high to me. Discount codes would go a long way to having one of these chargers become part of my standard travel gear. I am just looking for an excuse to get one.

think that in their marketing minds, if they’ve gotten you to their site, they are happy. To them, why take the time to remove or flag items if they have the potential to bring you to their online store, where you might find a replacement for the out-of-stock item.

    Wow,
I just found this site and have to comment on this!
In my opinion being conscious about the environment and shopping (aka consuming) are quite contradictory. solar powered charges is terrible for the environment. It is a gadget that will not get much use and will end up in a landfill. Besides making this stuff takes far more energy than it will ever save.

    Makes me sad…

Whoa, very cool! It looks a lot smaller and more compact than the other solar chargers I’ve seen out there. Lots of them are big and bulky and definitely anything but travel sized.

A little pricey but if you work on the road like I do, it sure seems like it would be handy.

This is very cool, we have a freeloader which is similar but smaller which we use for charging the mobiles an i-pod, this will be helpfull for when the laptop goes flat if your not near a plug :)

  79. Martin says:

So far, it doesn’t look like anyone has hit the perfect balance of affordability, power output and portability with these devices. This Gorilla looks like it’s aimed at the market that is less price sensitive. I hope they do OK in this economic climate.

I would love to see companies market laptops based on their power consumption. My wife bought an Aspire netbook recently and I was amazed at what it could do while sucking less than half the juice of a typical laptop.
