Lets withhold judging until we know more. Its great that more EVs are becoming available at affordable price points. China makes some of the worlds best and highest quality products these days, can't let old news guide your thinking.

Yes the Chinese have very low environmental standards and laws...

But the U.S. consumer is demanding more eco friendly alternatives more and more. You see this when for example Walmart is stocking more organic foods and they are grown in China of course.

One day food will be locally produced such as what Whole Foods Market is trying to do. Cars is a different matter.

I am also sure China does not want to gain a reputation for shoddy, defective, and hazardous products. Its not good for business...

As for me I am saving up for a Ford Escape Hybrid!

Everett stole my thunder. I, too, was going to weigh in on the fact that we should boycott all Chinese products as the US has no controls in place to make sure that- our pets don't die, people don't get ill from counterfeit toothpaste - labeled as Colgate, toy parts aren't being swallowed, lead paint isn't being eaten, fish and shellfish aren't toxic, etc. With China's track record, they'll probably fill the tires with nuclear waste.

There is something about "produced in China" that doesn't go well with the word "safety". I'll wait to make sure these cars are covered in lead paint, or that the tires aren't inflated with DEG.
