Supermaket chain in England to charge for plastic bags

M&S plastic bagsA supermarket chain of stores in South West England, M&S, plans to add a ‘bag tax’ on plastic bags. The aim is to do it in the whole country of England. The program has been tested in Northern Ireland and it showed a 66 percent reduction in the use of plastic bags.

It would be great if a store would do this in the United States. Surprised Whole Foods has not done such a thing like this yet. It seems the consumer will use less plastic bags only when their is a financial incentive. There is a huge plastic bag lobby in the United States that wants use to be addicted to these environmentally unfriendly trash.

The supermarket chain M&S plans to give out free re-usable bags to consumers for 3 weeks prior to the plastic bag tax.

You can do your part and get some reusable bags. Its the right thing to do even if you are the only one!

  1. life in the UK test says:

Getting into the United Kingdom is not the same, nor is as easy as one would find it to get into the United States. Life in the UK is totally different. One would say you haven’t seen anything till you have been to the UK. Do it before you miss out the chance.
