Eco friendly vintage nouveau jewelry by Verde Rocks

Verde Rocks designer, Gwendolyn Davis, has created a new line of vintage nouveau eco jewelry. Davis’ designs use only organic, vintage, recycled or any materials that can be certified sustainable. As she says:”Fashion does not have to be superficial. There is power in whatever one may have, and this industry is more influential than any other…”

You will not find the granola hippie look here. Verde rocks is elegant, sexy, and sophisticated. Its sustainable chic alright.

I can’t believe some of the necklaces are only $49, that’s a great price for these pieces of jewelry!

Hmmm nice pieces but I was a jeweller for 10 years and I suppose still am (once a jeweller always a jeweller). I wonder what technique they are using to solder the pieces, polish them and or plate them? The jewelery industry is not very eco-friendly. These may be “recycled” jewelery goods but cleaning, polishing and making something new out of something old usually involves gases and chemicals that pollute our air and waterways .. cyanide and industrial strength peroxide is used quite often to clean castings, and cyanide is one of the many chemicals used in plating solutions. I’m pretty sure that polishing compounds are not eco-friendly either.

I’m not trying to start anything here. Not at all. I’m just someone that’s been inside the jewellery trade and I know exactly how many chemicals are used to make jewellery and not a one is eco-friendly.

Using jewellery that has already been made - yes that’s eco-friendly … but it’s often tarnished and dull .. that’s why I’m questioning how these pieces might have been cleaned and if they are plated.

    Great site BTW.

I agree, great prices. Worth looking at for sure.

Great points, Tricia. I gather that this vendor is a small mom and pop store and that they would not have the resources to do some industrial strength cleaning and rebuilding… There are a lot of eco friendly cleaners in the market now but for metals I don’t know. Verde Rocks does not provide these details, but at least they are not mining new metals and that is very destructive to the earth!

All the old stuff I wore as a child is coming back. Kinda scary and makes you feel old, but it looks great most of the time.

You have some very attractive jewelry on this blog. Thank you for showing it off. Did you design it?

The first one is the best.
Shaped like a eagle brilliant. It would be awesome if you could get the whole set.
the bracelet is pretty flashy too. Not to mention the chains with the small collection of “pretty stuff”.
Gotta get my girl one of those.
