Thinkhost — the sustainable host
For my first post at ecoshopper.net I must say a few words about my web hosting provider — Thinkhost.
Reasons Thinkhost stands out
- Servers run on 100 % renewable energy
- Supports environmentally friendly business practices, socially responsible
- Working with like-minded suppliers and contractors
- Special rates for non-profits
Some of the technical highlights
- multi domain support (more than one www address with one account for multiple sites)
- You get 100 web templates and PHP scripts and software applications for free
- Great documentation on website and links to webmaster resources
- They give out a weekly newsletter that is informative and is archived on website
- Great customer service so far for me!
Here’s an inside tip. If you sign up and purchase stock royalty-free photography for your website(s) then sign up at bigstockphoto.com for photos at $1-2 each. Then you get 3 months free at thinkhost! Most stock photography is about $60 for each picture but bigstockphoto.com takes photos from anyone and shares the profits 50/50 with the photographers. Check it out as the quality is very good.

Are they powered by wind and sun energy? That’s really great! We should think more about environment, especially now, when climate change effects are more and more often.

You know what I am not sure. I think they buy renewable energy credits. They are based out of New Jersey and there are no wind and solar farms out there yet…
