Indigeous Designs is chic with eco friendliness and fair trade

Indigenous Designs Fashion
Indigenous Designs is an eco friendly online shop that is stylish and contemporary. Unlike other indigenous clothing makers who are not!

Most of their fashions are made of organic cotton, alpaca, silk, merino wool, and tencel. They work with environmentally-friendly dyes too. Garments are typically made using one of three carefully selected methods: hand-knit with needles, hand-held knitting looms and hand-woven looms.

Each garment is hand-knit entirely by an individual as part of a small knitting group in their community, not in a factory. They also support and preserve fair trade wages and artisan cooperatives.

Indigenous also utilizes green energy to offset their carbon footprint, offers employee carpools and employee incentives to buy hybrid vehicles, and formed Green Steps-a program to offset the carbon footprint of trade shows.

They are made in countries such as Peru and Guatemala. Indigenous is more than just an organic clothing company!!

Menstrual pads that are reusable and made of organic cotton

menstrual pad made of organic cotton and reusableEverything is going green lately! Especially if its disposable. These here are Moonpads which are reusable menstrual pads. They are made of 100% organic cotton (except for the flaps) and they are hand dyed.

They’re comfortable, fun, and easy to use. When women who try them discover that Moonpads are far more comfortable than disposables.

What’s more is that they save you lots of money (a great point in this economy!), they’re better for your health and they’re WAY better for the planet- women in America alone throw away 20 BILLION disposable menstrual products a YEAR. And that’s just the United States!

Disposable menstrual products are made of plastics that don’t go away, and the production of them sends dioxin (the world’s most toxic chemical) into our rivers and streams and ultimately into our food chain.

9 Moonpads for only $59 with free shipping in the US of A! that’s a dollar discount on each Moonpad!

See ilovemymoon.com for more. There are many other fine organic products on the website.

New Coolerado air conditioners use 1/10 the power!

coolerado air conditioning unitWe are going to go through another tough summer and many of us have to use inefficient power hogging air conditioners that give us expensive utility bills.

Well there is finally a company that is making green air conditioners. Coolerado offers a revolutionary, solar way to cool the world — utilizing 1/10 the energy used by conventional air conditioning systems.

At peak times the summer, 1/3 of all power goes to air conditioning. Simple green and conservation efforts won’t put a dent into this consumption. Bigger solutions must be advanced. This is where Coolerado comes in.

Widespread introduction of Coolerado technology can have a huge impact on electric demand and ease the burden on the utility grid. Especially if it is adopted by governments big and small, in addition to home owners.

Coolerado technology can be used in all types of buildings from commercial to private homes. Think of the savings for construction, entertainment, government, retail, casinos, hospitals, gyms… Everyone can save on energy and the environment wins!

Coolerado air conditioners utilize a revolutionary cooling process called the M-Cycle that uses water to cool air without adding humidity to the air that enters the building. The M-Cycle does not use chemical refrigerants and creates a healthier, more comfortable, living environment by providing continuous fresh air as an integral part of the cooling process.

Even though a small amount of water is used by the Coolerado air conditioner, regional water use remains constant because far less water is needed to produce energy at the power plant. Coolerado uses water to make cold air, but it uses no more water than an air conditioning unit doing the same job would use.

The City of Denver is getting into the act to cut energy costs, create green collar jobs, and stay net water zero. For example, a 50,000 watt air conditioner was replaced with a 5,000 watt Coolerado air conditioning system on a Denver library. 1/10 of the power usually powers a small home, not a whole library!

Coolerado air conditioners are green, using no chemical refrigerants, and reduce greenhouse gases tenfold compared to traditional systems. Coolerado also creates a healthier, more comfortable, living environment by providing continuous fresh air as an integral part of the cooling process.

See more at Coolerado for more. They are expanding rapidly to your state. You have to contact one of the installers for prices.

Bamboo laptops benefit the environment

Treehugger had a good article on whether bamboo laptops are beneficial to the environment. Besides the eco friendly looks that wood gives there are benefits to using bamboo.

Bamboo is more biodegradable than plastic, and bamboo can be harvested in a sustainable way since it grows very fast like a weed. Plastic uses too much chemicals and is difficult to biodegrade. You can recycle plastic, but we must develop computer components in a way that they can be taken apart for recycling. Until then we are just going to see these hazardous electronic parts back in the landfill.

Anyways there are more options for bamboo computers such as the:
Asos Eco book bamboo laptop

Asus Eco book is $2000 but only includes 1 GB of ram.

Dell studio Hybrid with bamboo case
Dell has the Studio Hybrid which has a bamboo sleeve option. Ultra sleek design with power efficiency. Its get just about the same features as a regular pc except its 80% smaller and uses 70% power. These cool laptops are portable and affordable. Go Dell!!

Cedar wood Fujitso prototype laptop
The Fujitsu laptop is actually made with cedar wood. Even the plastics are made of bio-based plastics! It’s only a prototype, but it could be the future for us. In 2002, Fujitsu became the first computer manufacturer to develop corn-based plastic and adopt the environmentally friendly material for PC parts. Original bio-based plastic has been used for a limited number of smaller parts and gradual improvements to its properties to satisfy various manufacturing requirements and increase the percentage used in its notebook PCs. The newly developed bio-based plastic accounts for about 30% of the plastic material in the housings of 2 of their prototype laptops.
